Sophia's Birthday birthday (not to be confused with her forthcoming birthday party)

On Sophia' birthday Papa got her up early and they went to the donut shop where she got to choose donuts. Then they came home and she opened a present or two before he headed to work.
Once everybody else got up Sophia opened her presents from the other kids (and they all ate donuts of course)
Isabella wrapped this present all by herself, I thought she did a pretty good job.

Since all our birthday evening happenings were, um, happening, down south, we had a short visit at Aunt Lora and Uncle Lou's house first. Grammy also joined us on our way, so she was with us for the festivities.

Aunt Lora's famous swing was one thing everybody was looking forward to, so that was the first thing we headed out to do.

Grammy laid down so Xander swung over the top of her.

Finally it was Uncle Lou's turn on the swing.

Kole liked the puppies.

Our birthday tradition has been going to Oak Park Mall to the Rainforest Cafe, and to ride the double decker carousel. Well, this time we found out that the Rainforest Cafe is closed! but Sophia still wanted to ride the carousel, and go to the Disney store with her money, so we still went down to the mall. We walked to the carousel and it was gone! We were disappointed, but went over to the Disney store and while we were shopping, we looked out the front window and there was the carousel, they moved it. It seems crazy big to move over a few hundred feet, but apparently they wanted to. We were just glad it was there.
Papa stayed on the ground and took some pictures.
When we saw the carousel we ran out of the Disney store to go ride, so after our ride I took the big girls back over there to shop while Papa took the little kids to a car themed foam play place.

Sophia shopped around and compared prices on lots of different things. She had some allowance money saved up, and her birthday money from Auntie Anna, Aunt Lora and Grandad, so she knew she had $25 and she was looking hard. Once she narrowed it down to a plush princess doll, she had to analyze the dolls to pick which one, didn't like one's hands, didn't like one's smile etc. She ended up with this Belle doll and is very happy with her purchase.

Here's the play area where the kids were waiting for us.

Next we went to Applebee's to eat, open presents and sing Happy Birthday!

Sophia said she had a great birthday, and those shoes she opened from Grammy and Pop made it to her "best of the day" list.

Sophia had a great day. What fun. But I think the rest of the family enjoyed it just as much. Loved the pictures of the swing, Lou looked like he was having some fun too.

Yeah, that was fun. And I got to be there for Sophia's first "jaw breaker" gumball too! What an honor! Grandma H is right, all the kids had a blast, including Uncle Lou. Aunt Lora's famous swing alright.

how odd that rainforest cafe is gone! At least you found the carousel after all. I remember Levi and I got to do all that with you guys two years ago. It's a fun tradition. 6 is so big! Can't believe it.
